i have a newly built computer with a ecs kn1 motherboard. do i need an os to run the setup cd from the motherboard because it wont run

Yes. The motherboard can boot up your computer with the OS on it without the drivers. But you need to install the motherboard drivers after installing the OS because if you don't, things like the ethernet ports and other plugins will not work. The OS must go on first before the motherboard drivers. If your computer will not start, either you don't have it plugged in, the power supply is dead, or something was not hooked up properly.

Yes ofcourse.... to do anything on the system the first thing you need is an OS.... the setup cd of motherboard are the drivers for various things on the motherboard to be used by OS...
