i noticed a lot of the answers say its offensive in one way or the other. So why don't we ban everything that anybody finds offensive and then everyone can be happy and miserable at the same time

I don't smoke in front of my friends and family who are no smokers either like most of you are saying. If I am in a bar full of adults that choose to work there and drink there then I should have the right to smoke.

Because it is our right to not be killed from emphysema as we kill ourselves with cirrhosis.

Smoking is a hazard and a nuisance and it should be banned from all public places. It offends my senses the same way loud music offends my ears and obscene images offends my eyes. It should be controlled and the public shouldn't have to put up with it. I don't care if you smoke. That doesn't bother me. I won't even give you the lecture about how you're only hurting yourself because I'm sure you've heard it before. But when you actions affect me, that's when there is a problem. Smoking is harmful to all those around you and down right irritating to boot. I didn't choose to fill my lungs with foul smoke and I shouldn't have to put up with it in bars, restaurants of anywhere else. I hope the rest of the country follows California and other states' decision to stop letting smokers' free choice to smoke infringe on non smokers' free choice not to smoke.

P.S. Having a smoking section in a restaurant is like having a peeing section of a pool. There's no way to keep the sections seperated and so I end up having to breath your smoke.

i'm assuming my opinion on smoking bans in bars would in reality serve to bother you larger. i imagine you're probable riled up sufficient with the aid of the undeniable fact that's. The ban the position I stay extends in reality to bars which serve better than "bar nutrition". So, as a bar proprietor, in case you elect out of the "eating position" aspect of the agency, you'd be a smoking institution. That looks particularly real looking to me, yet then i'm a nonsmoker and that i hit upon some thing that keeps me from being round it quite real looking. i'm effective you disagree. Addenda: (*laughter*) in case you ask those questions you may be prepared for individuals to disagree with you. area of the clarification the smoking ordinances are entering into is because actually everyone appears COMPLAINING to interior reach governments about the smoking. So, once you element your question to NON-those who smoke what did you anticipate? i imagine you in reality needed a talk board to rant in and idea this can make you sense better appropriate. you may prefer to address a similar question to those who smoke. it can make you sense somewhat better appropriate.

i do not know, but i think that it would make a lot of people stay out of bars..i use to drink and go to a bar and i would not of been comfortable if i could not smoke..i have a son that will not let me smoke in his house or on his land..but i have had to go out of stores to smoke then go back in.. i do know i need to quit smoking because it is causing me health problems.. and i think if you could quit it would be good..but i think that is easier said than done.. i have tried the patches but i think a person will use one crutch for another one and i think gaining weight by eating more when you are nervous or edgy is worse than smoking.. i do not like to be the size i am.. i have been walking a lot and trying to get exercise but i have some damage from a abusive husband and that is not easy...i really think even in restaurants they should have a non -smoking section and a smoking section...i did not know they were trying to make smoking illegal in bars.. i have read that the hospitals here are going to have non -smoking even on the grounds of the hospital.. i think that is going to be tuff right there.. i know plenty of people in hospital work that does smoke...i personally like to enjoy a cigarette after i eat..but i guess we will have to take one day at a time.. i really believe cigarette smoking is bad for us, but i also think there is other things we do not even think about that is damaging to our health too....some of the very medicine they give can cause us damage... i have been on medicine for quite sometime, prescription medicine and now i have renal kidney insuffiency...i am not a doctor and how was i to know that it would cause me damage...so i think sometimes we are in a no win situation.. and i guess we just have to take it all in strive and do what we can and do not worry about what we cannot do anything about...i hope this helped you a little on insight anyway...

I think it is more for the protection of the people who have to work there. I actually started smoking because of smoke in bars. It bothered my eyes unless I was smoking too. Smoke tends to drift towards the non-smokers. I don't go out much to bars anymore unless it is nice enough to step outside to smoke...most of the bars have a smoking section just outside that you can take your beer with you.

As a non-smoker, I don't want to smell any type of smoking tobacco. I don't mind if there is a smoking section, as long as I do not have to walk through it to reach a table or the ladies room.

BTW, my mother is dying from emphysema, due to smoking for years. She can no longer do even the most mundane of tasks, including standing up to wash dishes.

Because it harms not only the health of the smoker but all of the nonsmokers that have to put up with the smoke around them. Since it's dangerous to everyone's health, and we ALL have the right NOT to have lung cancer, we ban smoking in public places.

Where I live, smoking is banned in all enclosed public places, including bars, casinos, and restaurants.

As a smoker myself, it pisses me off.
They don't have the right, but it seems like society, in general, is slowly moving in favour of non-smokers because nowadays we're a minority.

I think its the same reasoning why smokers have to smoke in public, both think they have rights. I don't like smoke esp. in the morning when you go out to breathe fresh air and then they smoke, ugh, its polluting the air. I am allergic to smoke.

Because second-hand some is harmful to others. Breathing is still a very popular thing to do!
No one should be forced to breathe secondhand smoke. No one.
No one should be forced into smoking secondhand. No one.
No one has the right to hurt another person. No one.
And secondhand smoke hurts, and kills.
It is also expensive for individuals and businesses.
It may also lead to liability suits.

Non-smokers are more powerful than smokers right now. they think they're helping the employees, but I've found most people who work in bars smoke anyhow!
