I don't know much about wireless networking so I will try to explain the problem the best I can. I am trying to connect my sister's laptop to my wireless network using a netopia wireless LAN card.

Under network connections, there is no "Wireless Network Connection" icon. Also, when I try to install the drivers for the card on her computer, I get a CODE 10 error that says "This device cannot start."

Also, "Wireless Zero Configuration" is enabled.

If anyone could help, I would appreciate it immensely! If you need any other info, please just ask.

Try this in XP or 2000:

Insert the driver disk for the device and close whatever auto run sequence that comes up

Next, go to Control Panel>system>Hardware>Device Manager. Find the card and uninstall it.

Restart the computer.

When it comes back up, Windows should find and automatically install the hardware. If you still get a code ten, I'd guess (80% chance) that you have 2000 and not XP and that there's a reason I've never heard of Netopia. :-)

Anyway, if it does happen, uninstall the card again in the device manager. Then try the manufacturer's installation instructions via the disk. If you don't have a disk, then..... Well, it's probably what's causing the problem in the first place.

If you don't have the disk, you COULD go to http://www.windowsupdate.com/ with the Yellow ! driver installed and try to do a custom search (rather than express) to see if there is an updated driver that will allow the device to work. This is assuming that you can connect to the internet with a wire...

If all that fails, it's time to figure out the origin of the Code 10. Usually it's a conflict with another device, but it can get complicated. E-mail me, you know how I love to fix these problems. :-)

if it says the device cannot start then it is probably a hardware/driver /resource problem. first make sure you have the latest version of the adapter's driver software. you will probably need to go to the manufacturers website to get this.

next, go to your device manager, its in system properties, and make sure there is no yellow exclamation point sign next to the device, if there is you probably have a resource conflict. i cannot answer directly to that without seeing a hardware profile for you.

try the driver first, then uninstall/reinstall the device and see if that works out for you.

Check through 'Device Manager' whether PCMCIA adapter is working or not. You may try to uninstall and reinstall it. Try after updating its driver if necessary. If you have 2 slots of PCMCIA then try with the other. Or if you have another wireless LAN card try whether it is going through or not(just to eliminate to see whether the wireless card is a faulty one).
