The theory is that when someone is lying they will look up to the right and when they are telling the truth they will look to the left. The reasoning is that the creativity and imagnination are a function of the right hemisphere, and fabricating an untrue story would require these functions. The left hemisphere is comprised of logical, factual thinking, both of which would be utilized when one is telling the truth. Although logically the theroy does make sense, there is not a lot of evidence that this phenomenon really occurs.

Yes it's a scientific fact that you can tell when someone is lying by looking in their eye. It has something to do with the size of the iris expanding or decreasing. As far as going a certain direction, well i believe if they can't look straight into your eyes and tell you, then most probably they are not telling the whole truth unless they are compulsive liars.

Yes it's true. For a really good example of this watch The People's Court and just watch when people are not truthfull the eyes shift. If they are searching for an answer they roll their eyes up toward the heavens for an answer. If they don't want to answer or are holding back information they look at the ground.
Check it out.
It's pretty interesting.

That's a common belief. If people are remembering then supposedly they'll look to the right. If they're clear in their fact, then typically they'll look you in the eye or close to. Fabricating a story, they'll look to the left and if they're just not completely positive and it's questionable in their mind, they'll typically look down towards their hands or floor.

I don't know, but when I was a kid and my mom thought I was lying, she would say, "Look me in the eye and say that." If I was lying, I couldn't do it.
