It's all in good fun. With all the politically correctness that American society says we should have, there is almost no one that we can joke around about that won't get overly offended. It's not that Americans don't like Canadians, it's that it's safe to joke with Canadians, because so many of them are such good sports about it. Canada is like a close cousin that you pick on at family gatherings.

Also, many people say mean things about Canada to be ironic. Someone might say that they hate Canada, which is funny and ironic, because there is pretty much nothing to hate about Canada.

So, because it's ironic and because it's safe, Americans have made jokes about Canada a soft of trendy running gag. There is no true dislike of Canada here, at least, none from me or anyone I've met.

What disdain? I'm from Montana, although I live in Nevada now. Been to Canada many, many times. I've always loved the people and the places I've been. We sometimes poke fun at French Canadians but that's just because (if you hadn't noticed) we're not particularly fond of the French (and they're so easy to make fun of, lol). I can only speak for myself, of course, but I love Canada; all the people I knew in Montana liked Canadians, we had Canadian days in Kalispell, MT. Parties and BBQ's... Tons of fun with our Canadian neighbors. Heck, I even know "Oh, Canada"...Don't forget, some people are really troubled and don't like themselves, much less anyone else, so don't go by them. Anyway, sorry for any bad feelings, and have a great summer. Take Care, -Rick

uh, i'm not aware of disdain towards Canada... maybe you met A jerk and extrapolated it out?

i've heard that Canadians disdain Americans, but i know a lot of Canadians, and never felt any disdain from or for them. There are good people and there are bad people everywhere....

I can't see how it could be genuine.I'm a Canadian that's lived half of my 40yrs here in the usa.Aside from pithy differences in govt structure,Canada kinda reminds me of Americas hat, about the same social networking, but higher up on the earth and colder. There's not really a whole lot of things that the usa can pick on Canada for. It is ignorance. The USA has a very weak Educational System which teaches very little History or Geography about countries outside the USA.

Most Canadians are ok, too tall, but ok. The ones that come to the US to work and then constantly criticize us and our govt, kind of tick me off. Then I think they're hosers.
