A difficult question as Beckham is great but s@@@ in goal. Robinson is great in goal but couldnt play up front.....so my answer is Rooney. Rooney is fantastic, so is Becks Lampard, Gerrard etc. but Rooney lights up the game, he always looks like creating something, he always scares the opposition, he opens up so space for others to prfit by.
So Rooney. As shown against Trinidad on Thursday - the mere arrival of him got the players around him playing better, caused some uncertainty in the T&T defence, lifted the crowd. He is the most important player at this time, and therefore the best player.

I have to say that even though Wayne Rooney is a great player, Beckham is probably better than him if only he would get into the game, Crouch is just to physical of a player in order to still be of use in a header, so that really only leaves us with Micheal Owen, who is the most likely candidate.

Their is no individual best player but a combination of top players
when they are on form which so far in the world cup has yet to come

It has to be steven gerrard for me, i think he's a better footballer than ronaldinio!! But i must say john terry made a good save against t & t! But then it was the great liverpool players that got us the win!!!
