I think that sums it up in (in a nut shell) in this case at least.

He was a criminal and a sociopath, therefore he had no conscience--
couple this with being power mad and ambitious, working with a fruitcake Adolph and you have the recipe for disaster for all those around them, and eventually themselves too.
Sociopaths are often quite intelligent and many have attended
university, just like dr. gobbels. If anything, a formal education can make a dangerous sociopath even more dangerous. Sadly, socio[paths are not amenable to psychotherapy. They have an obsessive need to control their environment. Thankfully, many "burn out" in their late 40's and early 50's perhaps seeing their behaviour has cost them much more than it got them in the long run.

Mostly opinions, but hey, thats what you were asking for really. Seems that whoever wrote this thinks that it came from a resentment towards the human race and the feeling of inferiority for being a cripple and of small stature.
