I think that it would help a lot if we did win the WC, but soccer won't take off until big name, players like Beckham and Rinaldo decide to come to the US...it'll get the paparazzi and channels like E! an excuse to cover soccer, giving it a lot of face time. It'll also raise the salary cap and get kids that try to focus on football, baseball, or basketball a reason to focus on soccer...but to really get the US into soccer we need to get college soccer to become big and groom players like football and basketball do.

I think that it would take off, but not because people would suddenly get interested in the game or because they think its cool; they're opinion of soccer would probably stay the same. People would probably start getting interested in the game because they would like the glory of being a World Cup Champion and they see the U.S. as a possibility in order to do that.

No - that should have happened after the US hosted the World Cup; although more popular now (and the fastest growing sport in the US), football will never be as popular as the established sports in the US - those sports that the US fans believe their team are "Champions of the World" at even though their USA teams are the only ones involved in the particular competition.

no, football will only take off in the U.S. when it becomes a physical sport without whining or dives. i love football, but all the whining even gets to me sometimes. also football will never be physical like most american sports.
americans just dont care about the game, and thats not likely to change with a championship
and lacrosse is actually the fastest growing sport in America. it's not soccer anymore

Yes I will, because the soccer pre-season starts up again at the end of the month :p BTW the soccer seasons practically never end unlike American football, or basketball do. My team plays for 10 months straight.

Love to see that happen, even if we don't win the WC.
People who say it's a boring game because of low scoring, just don't appreciate the game. It's a far more physical game, than some of the others mentioned, they play for 45 min. w/o time-out calls, etc. They don't "grab" each other, if that is being physical, too sad.
