To prevent the trojan from freezing the Start button and Taskbar, try booting into Windows XP using the safe mode. This website will tell you how to boot into the safe mode:

After doing so, try using anti-virus software such as Norton, McAfee, or AVG to detect the clean the trojan. Most of the above software should be able to detect the trojan.

Depend on how bad it freezes, if you can get onto the internet at all, download a copy of Avast from www.avast.com, its a very good scanner that removes startup trojans.

Try antivirus software. When you identify the problem, try free tools (Yahoo! Toolbar with antispyware features). Than do the research on Symantec's and Microsoft's sites: they may have a tool and advices on how to remove your particular trojan.

You could erase the hard drive and reinstall the operating system.You need the manufacturer's CD to install the drivers.Not for the weak hearted but it works.
