I am not a psychiatrist. I do know however that depression can be a chemical imbalance requiring medication. It's ok to get help.
You can also:
Change your attitude. Your attitude controls your feelings. If you have a grateful attitude life looks better.
Help out at your local animal shelter.
Volunteer at the hospital. Bring some cheer. You will become cheerful.
Become a Big Brother. http://www.bbbs.org/site/c.diJKKYPLJvH/b.1539751/k.BDB6/Home.htm
There are children that need a person in their life to help them get over the tough stuff and for kids these days there's always tough stuff. Be someone they can talk to.
You will resolve some of your own problems this way as well.
When you teach someone you learn.
Seek God, ask for help and say thank you.

I think your lack of feeling for things is the reason why nothing seems interesting right now- i've had a similar problem only with me certain events have happened in my life that made some things- even things I used to really enjoy seem pointless and somehow not important anymore. But that's slowly getting better now. So try to work out what has bought you to this point and why you don't feel things anymore, and what it is that you are afraid of. I'd suggest writing or reading something philosophical or inspirational- perhaps Paulo Cohelo's Manual of the Warrior of Light or something else that you can use to reflect and work things out.
Also consider doing something that you perhaps wanted to do before but have never actually got around to doing- perhaps something you dreamed of in childhood, something that is completely different from your everyday life.

Interest in life, eh?
First, i'd say write a list of things that you would love to do in your life, no matter how out-of-this world or crazy they are. It could by skydiving, learning a new sport, juggling, whatever.
Try to learn//do one of these things.
Each morning, when you wake up, think of some things that you're grateful for. It could just be something simple as "I woke up this morning", "I'm having waffles for breakfast", "I have purple socks in my drawer." Whatever makes you laugh or happy.
Think of a goal each day that you can do. Things like working on the garden, fixing a meal, shopping for groceries, anything at all.
Finally, think of something that makes you laugh. Whenever you're down, upset, angry, whatever, think of that one thing.
Also, if you're under a lot of stress, go walking or running. It really does get your mind off of things.
Good luck :D Remember that live is too short to be anything but happy...

I have no suggestions as far as books go. Stop focusing on yourself and do something for others. Volunteer, reach out. We are what we think, thoughts become things. Start thinking Good thoughts, even though you don't believe the thoughts, keep repeating positive ones and eventually you'll believe them. Are you breathing, walking, talking?? Be thankful if you are.

Maybe you don't miss a thing in your life so you just find nothing more to look for. But since you're not happy either... maybe you miss talking to people... meeting people is good way... or why not going to see a psychologist...?

Reas Paulo Coelho's "The Alchemist" I've heard that people get really inspired by it...even Bill Clinton has read it, and from the look of things, it wouldn't hurt to do it. I leave you Paulo's website.

Go talk to your doctor. It sounds as if you may be suffering from depression.
