Acne can be the result of oily skin or dry skin; if your skin does not exfoliate properly then it clogs your own pores and causes breakouts. The whole "greasy food" theory is a bunch of hooey, although making sure to get enough sleep, avoid air pollutants (like constant cigarette smoke) etc. is probably a good idea. If greasy foods make any difference at all, it's probably from the oil getting on hands that in turn transfer the vegetable oil/ whatever to the face. (And the problem is not *grease* but that the pores are being blocked. Same thing can happen with dirt from hands, so it's good to keep your hands clean!)
Here's a super-easy, super-useful (for a lot of people) thing to do: Go buy a bunch of pillowcases. Put like five of them on your pillow and strip one off every day so that you have a clean pillow case each night. (That way the oils in your hair, or bacteria from active breakouts won't be lurking there when you're sleeping and getting back into your skin.) This has made a huge difference for me and several other people that I know.
A lot of people are sensitive to a very common emulsifier in many liquid body washes, shampoos, and toothpastes. It's most commonly called sodium laurel sulfate or sodium laureth (or lauryth) sulfate. You might try eliminating *all* laurel and laureth sulfates. This, in the end, cured my acne. It means buying more expensive products, but it's worth the savings on acne treatments, and also just worth it too look better. (Body soaps: use a bar soap. Shampoo and toothpaste: Try the Jason line, which you can get at organic stores. Avalon Organics also makes good shampoo. You'll notice that these products *advertise* the absence of laurel/laureth sulfates; this isn't just a crazy theory. These emulsifiers function to make products suds more, and they also, in effect, strip off the top layer of skin. For some folks, this causes dandruff, chancre sores, and, yes, acne.
Best of luck!
