Because his country believes in his abilies as a player, did you see his goal against Trinidad and Tobago?

Crouch is there really because of a lack of fully fit strikers. I personally think he is terrible but he has height, can hold the ball up well and did manage a goal (against Trinidad & Tobago I know). The thing with Rooney not being fit was also a factor. I would not have taken him there, I do not trust him to perform at this high level, maybe in a couple of years........

I confess I don't know much about football but maybe...
because the lanky git is just that lanky and sven can hope becks passes will find him rather than using the talent that was left behind like Darren Bent. What we can hope for is that Arron Lennon starts the next game, i've never seen him before and the boys got pace and skill, i was gutted (and i'm not a chelsea fan) than Wright-Phillips never went but i think (ok on one peformance that i've seen) Lennon is just as good.
Need i mention Hargreaves surely a waste of a world cup place.
Maybe also Owen(class) and Crouch just arn't ready to work together if at all.
And while I'm on - how about getting rid of Ferdinand (i'm sorry but I just don't have faith in him) and getting Sol in the starting line up - Hey if it comes to it we can stick him up front thats where he started his carreer.
Hargreaves? - Waste of a world cup place? I think so but you may disagree.

He gets far too much stick - and just because he looks a bit odd. He is quite skillfull for a very tall player and has scored plenty of goals recently - with Rooney not being fit, and Sven not taking Defoe then he was the obvious choice. Not taking Defoe was daft, especially by giving his place to Walcott (a player even untried at the Premiership level).

Cos Sven loves with him and several other average/off form players such as Neville, Owen, Hargreaves, Lampard.
It is a crime that Defoe isn't even in the squad!
And I don't think that McClaren will be any different unfortunately.
Just wait for the tabloid press to get their claws out when England disappoints a nation.

Only the one above knows. Just coz hes tall i think coz Becks and Gerrard can give him cool passes to finish them off as headers. Except that i dono ne reason that Crouch is good for.

Playing to the strenghts - England have one of the best crossers of the ball in david beckham, so they use crouchy as a target.
