you are wanting to make a vcd? Put a movie onto a cd instead of a dvd? If that is the case, you will in most cases need to use a software application to compress the video for you. Search for VCD or DVD to divx. There are tons of programs that will let you do this.
Good luck.

The only way is to burn a "VCD" or Video Compact Disc. These are very hot in Asia. They use VCD's more than DVDs there. They are much cheaper to burn, as you know. You will need the software to do it, I think Nero can do this. I've never done it. It is a good alternative, but I'm not sure of the picture quality. If you're thinking of putting a blank DVD into that combo drive and burning to it, that will not work.

You cannot burn a DVD using a cd burner even though it is a cd\dvd combo unless it is also a dvd burner. That being said, there are programs that will compress a dvd to fit onto a CD. Do not expect DVD quality, however as you will get closer to VHS quality. Since I believe you are looking to do commercial DVDs (as you didn't say differently) I won;t go any further other than saying that it is possible.
