nothing to explain, just players swapping shirts after a game

Its a great way of showing signs of sportsmanship....after the game, win or lose, players congratulate each other and exchange shirts as a sign of fair play which is one of the mottos for football (soccer).
Imagine for a small team exchanging shirts with a team full of superstars...will bring great memories for them in the future.

It is a common courtesy in the game to exchange something with the opposition. When I was coaching competitive youth soccer, we would go to tournaments and exchange pins with the other teams.

as a souvenir - often from your opposite number, or sometimes the guy who has been marking you - or of course a lot of the so called lesser teams would like a shirt from the best/most popular players in the world such as Beckham, Ronaldo, etc.

I also agree, they want to show that they hold no grudge against eachother, and that it was just a game.
