College is an absolute MUST for me (parents.), but I'm not sure on what I should choose to major in. I'd like to own my own small business someday (retail or food) and I would like to have some classroom learning that could help me out with the actual running of the business. The college that I'm goinng to be starting at in the fall offers these degrees in its College of Business and Economics:
Accounting, Decision Sciences, Economics, Finance & Marketing, and Management (each with their own multiple concentrations).
Any advice that you could give would be great. I plan on talking with business owners in my area, too, so that I can get a good idea.
Thanks! :]

Top priority should be to MANAGEMENT
then to FINANCE & MARKETING...
I would also advice you to do job in a related sector for about 2-3years before you go ahead to set up your own bussiness.
Best of luck for your future.

ultimately, any of those majors will work well for a career in business, so take what you're interested in and what you think you can do well in. it's good to have a variety of experience, and most of what you actually learn in business you'll learn on the job. for example, managment can't really be taught in the classroom, so make sure you get out and get some good summer job experience, as that will make more of a difference than your major.

i woudl take courses in all majors. If you want a real well rounded experince you should do that. but after the frist couple sesmeters you should find what you are really interested in within the school itself. and while you are in college, wanting to open a small business, make sure you network with your fellow students and professors. the more people you know the easier it is to get things done. but i suggest that if the only reason you are going to college is because of your parents you should really consider what you are doing. They may be correct but if you dont go for yourself you are not going to want to finish. Youll wake up one day and realize you are not living your life.

hi Rex, you are able to replace right into a paralegal in 2 years. in spite of the indisputable fact that the competition is fierce, regulation firms choose somebody with a 4 year paralegal degree because of the fact they are able to doing plenty greater, in many circumstances conversing basically super regulation firms hire them, and jobs for paralegals have a tendency to be in greater cities. Plus at the two year point for paralegals the job varies from a legal secretary that does some legal analyze to somebody who does paralegal artwork for a regulation place of work it particularly is paid below somebody with a 4 year degree. this implies the getting a job as a paralegal with a 2 year degree would be aggressive with pay it particularly is below what you assume, and jobs that are constrained incredibly in case you do not have the clerical skills to help your degree in paralegal analyze. for this reason the main secure decision for a 2 year degree which will pay properly is a level in wellness appropriate container that's no longer LVN / LPN, EMT, scientific assistant, phlebotomist, or scientific place of work assistant. in many circumstances this may well be fields like RN (2 year), nuclear drugs, ultrasound, X-Ray technologist (2 year degree), scientific technologist, paramedic, radiotherapy, or respiration therapy (2 year degree).

Unless you are going into highly specialized fields like Medicine or Law, my experience is that after your first job no one cares what your degree is in, they only care that you have one--at least for a Bachelor's degree.
