Pete Fountain, born in New Orleans most famously with Lawrence Welk on the Lawrence Welk Show. He is very good and very entertaining to watch play because he is very passionate about music and good at playing.
Benny Goodman is probably the most famous Clarinet player. His songs from the big band era are standards still today. He is also responsible for a signficant step in racial integration. Black and White musicians couldn't play together in the 30's in most clubs or concerts. He recruited Teddy Wilson and Gene Krupa to play in the Benny Goodman Trio. His band was successful enough that he didn't have to play in the south, so he had good players play with him regardless of their skin color.
This was ten years before Jackie Robinson entererd Major League Baseball!
