what year is it? Nissan just announced a problem with oil consumption on its 2006 models and is going to stop making the engines with that problem.

Most likely your piston rings are bad. But it could also be your valve stem seals. Either way, you're looking at major repairs. If it's the pistons, you'll need a new headgasket as well as new rings and the process of taking the heads off to that or replace the valve seals is serious work, not to be attempted by the DIY'er. And it's expensive (seriously) if you have to take it to a shop. Sell the car at auction, then thank god for every dollar you get for it. Good luck.

first things first, check your pcv valve, a plugged pcv will cause a build up of oil vapors in the crankcase, then make sure your oil change is not over due, as oil breaks down it tends to "burn off", next maybe upgrade to an oil for higher mileage vehicles, I recommend Valvoline Max Life, That is a start based on the information you presented, It may live another few miles but what do you have to lose to try. Also a can of engine restore won't hurt anythig either.

Could be many problems, most of which are major. My son had a Saturn and had to replace the engine. Check site below.

Your rings on your pistons need to be replaced. Buy a Japanese export replacement or have it rebuilt.
