Please listen to me on this - I can help you!!!!
You are probably wheat intolerant! Cut out wheat in all its forms for a minimum of a month, thats bread, pasta, pastry, cake - everything. its difficult, really difficult but if you stick to it you will see a major improvement. Im not some quack but recently discovered that I was intolerant to wheat and after a week of cutting it out completly my life had changed. Now 4 months later its completly different. My IBS symptoms disappeared, I lost a stone and a half, my mild ecxema disappeared - I have suffered from hay fever all of my life - gone totaly! Im sleeping better and even stopped snoring.
I probably sound a little evangelical about it but the effect on my life and health have been profound. Its really difficult at times - when you want to grab a sandwich you cant and lots of my favourite foods are on the "dont even go there" list but the benefits outweigh the bad stuff.
Try it it WILL work

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a chronic (long-term) condition affecting the small or large bowel. It causes pain or discomfort and an altered bowel habit.
Symptoms can be varied, can be very mild or very severe. Can vary from constipation to diarrhea, abdominal cramps, bloating, bloated abdomen, excess wind, nausea, vomiting and indigestion. Main symptom is that food passes through faster than normal.
Symptoms are thought to be caused by muscle contractions in the bowel wall which is stronger in people with IBS. It can be exacerbated with stress.
Doctors generally diagnose IBS after hearing someone describe their symptoms and examining them. Blood tests will not show anything. Confirmation of diagnosis can be done only after sigmoidoscopy(putting a scope in the sigmoid colon or a full colonoscopy) + biopsy. If your doctor did all this, then you can be sure of the diagnosis. But this is not that easy in many people, it may not be confirmed even after all the tests.
There is no cure for IBS, there are treatments that can help reduce the symptoms.
If the treatment he gives you has helped you then too you are on the right tract.

I have had sever IBS for 10 years. It effects my life in every way, making me panicy and agoraphobic. Mucus is very normal. I also eliminated wheat but it didn't help a lot. I still don't eat it though as it stops the bloating and excess wind! Last week as a last resort i went to acupuncture. I can not stop spreading the word about it. In ten years i have had the best week ever. My toilet habits have been like a 'normal' person. No hot water bottle needed and out in less than 10 mins not like the hour that it was! I have only been for one session and my next is tomorrow. Whether it be placebo or not it definitely has worked for me. Also citrus fruit is a good one to avoid, alcohol and fizzy drinks also. Fast food because of the grease and the most important rule is drink loads of water. At least two litres, better if it's 3 or 4! This helps hydrate the gut and makes stools easier to pass! (nice i know, but true) I hope you feel better as i know how vile this condition is. good luck.

Ok, I have IBS...and it was horrible getting it under control, but now I am fine 95% of the time. I also had a huge mucus problem at first. Along with lots of diarrhea, bloating, pain and nausea. It is possible that you have a wheat intolerance, but it is also possible that it is IBS...especially if your doc has done tests.

I found the best thing is fiber treatment. It REALLY works. I use generic fibercon caplets, and I take two before lunch and two before dinner with a big glass of water.

Also, I have learned that many docs, even gastroenterologists do not know much about IBS, but there are lots of books and cookbooks out there. Check out your local library.

Stay away from large quantities of trigger foods (caffeine, chocolate, fried foods, coffee, alcohol, carbonated beverages and artificial sugars) until it is under control. Also, avoid meals high in insoluble fiber (whole wheat, nuts, fruits and veggies with peals). Eat lots of bananas, oatmeal, oat bread rather than wheat, pasta, brown and white rice, and applesauce.

Good luck and email me if you want more info.

Yes. Irritable Bowel Syndrome. It is a common sign/symptom. Stress, foods, inactivity, lack of water intake can esclate the condition. It appears that the trigger events are variable from IBS patient to patient. Find out what triggers your episodes and what alleviates them. Keep a diary and write down moods, excercise, diet etc. Also write down the signs and symptoms of the flare ups. Then simply review the diary and see what factors seem to cause the flare ups. Try to avoid the triggers. Follow the Docs advise & treatment. Best of luck. Stop worrying...that can actually be one of the largest triggers for this disorder.
Mucous is and should be present in ther bowels...very normal.

i'd get a second opinion, bypass to a special GP at your education. It does sound like IBS (I easily have it), yet i'm no physician. My gp also gave me medicine at the same time as i became about your age, yet did not paintings for me. at the moment I went to work out a dietitian and her suggestion has made a huuuuuuuuuuuge distinction... I infrequently ever get bloated (which used to ensue on a daily basis previously). Her suggestion became that inspite of the actual undeniable actuality that I shouldn't shrink out particular ingredients, I might want to def shrink down on: some thing wheaty Beans and pulses Any carbs that would want to be reheated (e.g. micro foodstuff, oven chips) She instructed me to: Drink a probiotic yoghurt commonplace Have carbs like boiled potatoes and basmalti rice provide decision to bathe pasta over dry pasta Have oat depending breakfasts/snacks to change the wheat ones i became scaling down on yet another element that has in my opinion made a multitude of distinction is scaling down particular fruit, the dietitian instructed me to save to three servings of food in accordance to day MAX (such as dried end result and fruit juices). such issues as apples, strawberries and plums, make my abdomen swell up truly right away. you'll pick to make sure which end result ought to influence you. i'm in undemanding words having about a million serving of fruit in accordance to day, even if, I do make up yet having lots of veg so I nonetheless get my 5 an afternoon, it really is what my dietitian requested me to do. IMO, there is not any element medicating your self if the ingredients causing IBS are nonetheless being fed on! Edit: I also imagine there's a hyperlink between IBS and stress, no longer particular how scientifically shown that is, yet anecdotally, it receives worse for me (and each and each body else i comprehend that has IBS) at the same time as i'm less than pressure
