I actually travelled from Chicago to Laredo on Greyhound -- 26 hours, a very long trip. And even longer from Minnesota.
And spent several days going from Laredo to DF (Mexico City).
Just checked Greyhound, and it is around 32 hours. You go Minneapolis to Dallas via Des Moines, KC and OK City.
Then you catch the Dallas to Laredo bus.
I have traveled pretty extensively through much of Mexico by bus. If you have a specific destination in mind, I can advise.
Vaya con Dios.

Get to down town Minneapolis, the greyhound bus line is right next to the Target center and across from First Ave (famous night club) 1 block west of Hennepin av.& 9th st. Greyhound will only take you to the border, you would have to get a ticket for a chartered bus to go into mexico, or just sneek across like they do.
