My hubby and I had sex a week before my period was due to start. I usually have spotting several days before my period starts. I took 2 tests, both negative, had light spotting and severe cramping for a couple hours. Still slightly spotting but still no period. I'm never late except when I'm pregnant but have never had a negative test result. Any ideas?

First of all, it is absolutely impossible to get pregnant a week before your period. It *is* possible to get pregnant a week before your period is *due*...if you ovulated late (and, therefore, would have had your period later than you expected it). You ovulate about 2 weeks (generally 12-16 days) before your period. It takes at least about a week for the fertilized egg to travel to the uterus to start implanting. So even if by some odd chance you did ovulate a week before your period (which is *absolutely* impossible if you are very fertile), by the time the fertilized egg reached the uterus, there wouldn't be any place for it to implant because your period would have either started or been set to start.

There are 2 possibilities. Either you ovulated late, and it's a week earlier in your cycle than you think (so try testing in another week), or you aren't pregnant. Your period may have been late (there's always a first time), or you may not have ovulated at all, and you may not *have* a period. (There could be other bleeding, but not a period.)

Good luck!!

How late are you? It may be too soon to tell exactly...maybe wait at least a week and take another test or to be more accurate go to your doctor or a clinic... they will do a blood test which of course will be a more definite answer. There is a possibility that you are... it just may be too soon to tell. I know when you are trying... the waiting part is the worst... but it will happen eventually : ) Good Luck...

It's probably stress that is causing it to be late. I would wait a week and then test again. If still after that week you are negative I would see a doctor.

I would wait a couple of days and take another test and then if it's still negative call your doctor.

it could be stress related, or b/c you think that you're pregnant, your body could be tricking you and showing symptoms of it. also, the pregnancy tests both could have been faulty. take another one
