I did fantasy basketball last year. I enjoyed it, but it is a lot of work as the NBA schedule is very inconsistent. Some weeks a player will have 4 games, while others only have 2. Make sure to check if there is a limit to the amount of games that can be played at each position.
For the sake of drafting, just like in the NBA, great big men are hard to come by. Usually, centers are drafted higher then they should because there are only a handfull of legit centers. I dropped out because I didn't enjoy it as much as my baseball or football leagues.
Also, football and basketball overlap, especially during fantasy football playoffs, so the majority of my focus was on football.

If you already play fantasy sports (football and baseball) why not try basketball. You possess an understanding of how fantasy sports works so no real learning curve there. The best way to become informed about any sport is to play. Your first season will be a learning experience on the players and their stats (unless you have beginner's luck). So, by your second year, you'll be good to go.

If you play fantasy baseball then basketball won't be any more time consuming. I play all 3, and in order of 'fun factor' I rate them: 1. Baseball 2. Basketball 3. Football
With baseball I like the challenge and involvement that takes place each day. Football is the least of the three just because all the strategy can be accomplished in one day.

if you enjoy fantasy baseball, then fantasy basketball is pretty similar because of the large number of games per week, length of season, etc.
it's different than fantasy football, imho, since football has one game per player/team per week, which creates different strategies. (for example, in baseball or basketball, a team's schedule can be important as the opportunity to get an extra start or two from a player can make a slightly lesser player worth starting over a better player)
best way to determine who is good and not is to use sites that provide player rankings, etc, since that helps to show what players are strong in what stat categories, and who are your strong single category guys vs. players that get good balance across multiple categories.

It would be too much work honestly. I love fantasy baseball and I tried basketball, but its so boring and I always pick the wrong people.
But you might be different. Try it before you diss it, you can always stop playing it (like I did).
You will like picking the NCAA basketball tourney though, its really fun even if you have no idea who is what and where the basketball goes.

I tried it, but it was difficult not having any idea about the players and whether or not they were simply having a hot two weeks, have a bad two weeks or whatever. With their season lasting 80+ games, I was thankful when it was over and I won't play it again...no matter how many times the boys here at work ask me!

Do you have a life? if not, why not go for fantasy basketball. A little reading before the season will go a long way and it can be a lot of fun.

Did basketball one time and won the league.
If you do it do the one thru CNNSI. They have players rated like stocks. If a guy is hot his value is up in dollar figures and you manage your salary cap. BUT..football is my #1 so keep in mind the focus that would be required.
