This subject is very dear to me actually.

You must represent competition correctly. Use it if you have the personality type that enjoys competition, but don't let it put you down.

You must remember it is fun, not that it is exercise. If you are not having fun, you will not do well.

Finally remember that people will be better than you. But don't let that deter you from trying. Even the worst basketball players can make a shot off Michael Jordan. And Michael Jordan sucks at baseball, you could be much better than him.

I hope I understood your question.
You must develop:
The sense of fun that comes from competition with fair play.
The sense of sportsmanship that you develop from the understanding of the sacrifices that are made by anyone performing physically.
The sense of satisfaction, afterwards, that comes from the excersize from the physical performance.

Fair play: The understanding that it is important for everyone to have equal opportunity to have fun and enjoy the benefits of physical performance.

Satisfaction from physical performance: Knowing that you are doing something good for your health and appearance.

Competition prepares you for other situations in life that require quick reactions, thinking, planning, etc. for success.
