They are born either male or female. You will be able to tell the difference as they molt and grow adult feathers. If you need to tell earlier, you could look at the bills. Supposedly the male has a yellow to greenish yellow bill with no blotches and the female has a greenish olive bill with blotches.

You hatch the eggs below a poultry or in an incubator and promote them. Mallards are not from now on noisy ducks. Rouens, Pekins, and some distinct are plenty louder than mallards. I actual have 40 Rouen hens that advance an recommendations-blowing ruckus after I walk out the door. (they're spoiled). My pekins and buffs make rather some noise, in undemanding words about as plenty because the Rouens, and that i in undemanding words have a dozen of those. you need to't even pay interest my Mallards once you bypass outside, inspite of the easy undeniable actuality that the others are LOUD.

they're male/female from the start - they don't "become" male or female after hatching.
Once they go through a molt feathers will change. On adult ducks you can tell male from female of any color by voice. Ducks (females) QUACK; drales (males) make a lower monotone sound.
Color of the beak, the curl of the tail feathers and other things can vary - but I've never been wrong on the adult voice and never have to touch the duck

They are born male or female. This happens while they're still in the egg. The problem is that you can't tell the difference.

If you wait until their begin to molt into adult feathers you'll see a difference then.

Maybe because they all look the same, you might think they haven't decided their gender yet. Actually, they have. You will have to wait until they get their permanent feathers to tell who is what.
