If the US Governement wasn't so crooked, would our standards of living be as high as it is?

By comparison our government is far less "crooked" than most countries. We just so happen to have a mildly retarded president right now but I believe we will survive it.

Our government isn't so much crooked as inept. It has been for many decades. If the government wasn't inept, our standard of living would actually be higher. There are tens of billions of dollars wasted every year, some of which actually just goes missing. When, by the way, is the last time the government actually, directly, solved a problem of the masses?

What do you know that the rest of us don't ? I never knew that the US government is crooked. In every government, in every country you can find individuals who are crooked. That doesn't mean in any way that the guvernment is dishonest.
If you'd read the newspapers, you'd soon learn that in spite of the few crooks in our government, we're miles ahead of just about all the other countries in government honesty. Wise up.

I agree that it IS crooked, but compare to other countries, we're not that bad.

Our standards of living are just as high as a "not so crooked" country. Look at Ecuador, Venezuela, even Iraq, etc, they're standards of living are comparable to their government.

It would be much higher if we had an honest and morally friendly government that ethically minded business at home as a priority. Apparently it's all based on greed and power in the US government. If the US military wasn't hell bent on owning and bullying the world, the savings from gunpowder alone would probably buy each of us a new car per year, with our own money. It's really sad and hopeless, unless you own an oil company.

I don't know about crooked but if the people who made up gov. weren't so greedy i think our standards of living would be even better. America has become a Capitalist country. It is all about money now. It determines your standing in everything. It is what life has become all about. It isn't really the Gov. though. it is just us as American poeple. We are greedy and some of us are smart or greedy enough, whichever way you want to look at it, to take advantage of that. Not everything should come down to money and greed. In my opinoin it just promotes crime and envy and social clashing. That is not to say money is evil or anything but I think too much emphasis is put on it. And people as a whole are way too geared to make as much as possible, in whatever means possible, erego all the crazy lawsuits and penny pinching done in corporations. We are wage slaves because you have to make so much in order to be able to live in a "comfortable" manner. Think about how much stuff you have in your house and consider how much of it actaully improves the quality of your life. This is just one person's opinion though.

every form of the u s government is on the take and crooked. if they made $10.00 an hour, take away all their freebies(trips, fuel, food, etc) just get basic expenses and have to make all monies public, it would change for the better. I could go on and on about this stuff.

The rich would loose a little but the poor and middle income would be better off. Congress protects the rich and enacts laws to make them more rich. Because they , themselves are rich .
