Motors need 4 things to run -
Compression -
Air -
Fuel-
Spark-
If it is not running at least one of those things are missing.
Make sure power is staying on the coil after the starter is released (into run position).
Make sure you have not only fuel pressure but fuel volume.
You need to narrow things down more once you figure out what is not happening in the system, you can figure out where to look in an attempt to fix it.

well if it starts its not the plugs wires , ignition system, its elsewhere fuel pump , filter, idle air valve need to have check by a pro, starting syndrome can be anything but its not coil wires and starting fluid has either in it and will ruin the motor, if use to much, it starts when you spray it in you have a fuel delivery problem

depends... got a manual or does it die when putting in reverse?
Weird, but how about your speedometer?
What the **** is this guy smoking you say?
Ford had a known problem with the electronic speedometers on those years killing trucks espcially manual transmission trucks as the truck though it was goign faster than it should and the PCM killing the truck.
I think you need to bring it somewheres to accurately see what's going on and to scope the ignition and fuel to make sure both are right on, then yank the cluster and unplug the PSOM (programmable speedometer Odometer module) to verify that it fixed it.

all my fords had a ballast resistor so under starting conditions you get a full power spark.
as an anti theft device I ran a wire from the ign switch through another switch
mine would fire then immediately cut out as you describe. on my Mk 2 cortina the wire had a clear (pinky tinge) sleeve on it. yours will be different bcoz this is like 700 years ago.
look from your ign switch to ign system, sounds like you have a broken connection there somewhere

verify spring loaded graphite stem lower than distributor cap that ought to contact rotor computer virus to ascertain no matter if that's lacking or damaged. verify wires going to map sensor.at cases the signal twine on the left of the map plug in backs out only sufficient for a no commence.

Sounds to me like your midship fuel pump is pressurizing the system just fine but that your in tank fuel pump may be bad.

sounds like there are a lot of other people who have had this same problem. read through this forum for some possible solutions: http://forums.automotive.com/community/70/3001/truck/trucks/1999-f150-54l/index.html
