Tv and radio shows, commercials - so many of them make fun of men. Deborah on Everybody Loves Raymond hits Ray and everyone laughs. Wives on commercials treat men like little children and it's supposed to be funny. When did we go from demeaning women to demeaning men? Do you think this is right?

Attention: Ayleostarz. I was asking the question on yahoo because I was curious to see what others thought about this. I'm not asking anyone in this forum to do something about it. Why are you so hostile?

Some people think it's o.k. But if it were men demeaning women, there'd be quite an uproar. It's called reverse discrimination. But sometimes with shows like Raymond, we can relate to the characters and that's what makes them funny. I can relate to Deborah sometimes. But as a whole, I don't think we should be demeaning anyone.

No it's not right. But whe did not stop demeaning women either. Do you not notice that almost everything on t.v. is extraordinairly almost imposible "hot" plastic girls?????? Not only do they look good but they are almost always refering to sex. I hate it. And you know what???? This stuff has always been around. I'm sorry but you must just now be noticing it. :/ If anything I"m glad they are doing it to the guys also because to me its like getting back at them for making girls look like sex toys. When they start showing actual HOT guys on t.v. then I will stop complaining about this stuff.......
You know sorry it bothers you, it bothers a lot of people. But thats just life you know. There is stuff that is going to irritate you everywhere. And you asking a question on yahoo answers isn't going to stop it. If you want something done about it - write a letter, get together a mob of angery people and march youre butts right down to the t.v station and complain about it there. What do you think people here on yahoo are gonna do about it eh????

Sorry if I seemed hostile.... I just sometimes get into things when answering a question or voicing my opinion. It does get me introuble sometimes because people can't handle my bluntness or whatever you call it...
Anyway:
I can understand that you would like to know others opinions and yahoo answers is a great way to do that. I just like to encourage people to get out and take a real stand for their beliefs. Nothing is going to change if we just sit and talk about it you know?
It really does irritate me both ways too it's not that I dissagree with you....I agree tottally with your statement and just wanted to add that it goes the same for women in the media as well. And then point out that it helps more to take action then to complain or get others opinions..... But I do thank you for bringing up the issue because it will get some people to think about it - maybe some that haven't thought about the issue before. That in itself could start a whole thing going....
anyway sorry for the reply being long and sorry if it sounded hostile thats just how i am sometimes lol... :p hope i helped somewhat in voicing my opinion anyways...

There is a common generalization that men are assholes, jerks, stupid or intellectually decrepit. Like the common caveman. Men have a prowess with strength from physicality and women have theirs in words and emotions. With all today's chick flicks and reality shows and movies people are becoming more intellectually advanced from seeing all these situations life can deal us and we understand comedy like this. If Ray was flamboyant, hence not having the new caveman/asshole generalization derived from movies and tv, it wouldn't be funny. Typically making fun of anyone isn't right but I would say it is right because comedy like this does not offend us. Thats probably because in our heads, we know we are the dominant ones when times get the toughest.

No, it's not right. But if you look closely you'll see that women are demeaned in the media as well. It's all just entertainment. Most of these people are paid millions of dollars to portray an image that is false. Don't feel bad.
