I'm running windows xp and my mouse started going nut yesterday or so. I left click and it clicks like 5 times on screen. How do I fix this? The mouse is optical only about 8 months old so I don't get what's wrong with it. I tried unplugging it and plugging back into the toweer but that didn't work. Any real help is appreciated.:)

Perhaps you have accidentally changed a setting. Go to Start > Control Panel > Mouse and check the settings there. The settings will vary from Mouse to Mouse and model to model but there should be an option somewhere that says Switch primary and secondary buttons, if that is checked, uncheck it. But, my guess is that it has to be some setting that you changed. If you can provide the model name and number of your particular mouse, I might be able to help more.

If there are no problems detected by windows XP, is the optical mouse attached by USB or the 5 pin PS/2 connector? If USB, plug it directly into the main (motherboard) USB port/ (if it already is switch USB ports) - does this make a difference? In device manager System properties dialog box Hardware tab, do any devices have a"?" icon? {If so - I would attempt to reinstall the drivers for the mouse and retry. Hope this helps,

What is going on is the mouse needs a routine cleaning. I recommend best buy geek squad because they will give the mouse a full service job (cleaning, repair, and much more). It's that simple. Glad I could help.
