can I start a magnolia tree from another tree, if so how?

I have a Magnolia tree in my yard and I want to try to start another one but I really don't know what I'm doing can anyone help?

There is one other way to start a magnolia tree instead of by seed. You could make an angled cut halfway into one of the thin branches of the tree and coat the cut with rooting compound that you can find at most any plant store. Put some pete moss into the cut and some pete moss around the cut then add a black bag around the area with a little potting soil. Soak the pete moss and potting soil. If done properly, in a few weeks it should start to produce roots then you can cut the branch off and plant it.

there is some information on this page under the "evolution" section on how to get the seeds from the pod of your magnolia tree after it has bloomed. you can plant the seeds to grow a new tree.
