Well, I'm not sure how the blood got there. But take it from me, Oxiclean works best. I had a cat with cancer and he constantly would dig at the tumors and gush blood all over the house. I would religiously apply Oxiclean powder with a little bit of water to make a paste to the stain and let it sit. Then wash it out with clean water. It works bets on fresh blood. Dried blood takes a little elbow grease, and it doesn't always come out.

Change the carpets. Remember that blood may have stained the surfaces under the carpet - use bleach for that.

I've had the same problem several times, and there are 2 really good ways to deal with it.
1-Get new carpet, nobody will ever know. Just go to the junkyard and get it.
and
2- Oxy-clean, that junk really does work.

You'll have to replace the whole carpet. I got period blood all over the seat in my Aunt's car and I had to replace it.
