I usually think ' hmm, here's another sheep that can't think for themselves'.

Being someone who has had much Bible teaching and training, I want to hear what the person has to say. Some speak with knowledge, but many only parrot what they have been told. If it is something I know is wrong I ask them to show me where it is in the Bible. I do the same often when they are right just to clarify the point being made.
Nine times out of ten though the person is unable to show you what they are referring to from the Bible so they are only parroting (telling something they have been told) something that they have no idea what they are talking about. It really rankles my skin when someone says "The Bible says..." and cannot back up what they are speaking of. Often these people will not give you a chance to speak or show them where they are incorrect.

I actually listen so I can say, "True. But the Bible also says..." I find it odd that people want to quote the Bible but few can actually understand what you're saying if you quote another part back to them in response.
Now the people who are constantly spouting rhetoric from the Bible, I'll usually ask them if they actually have their own thoughts and if they have a conclusive understanding of the Book or are they merely quoting.

I've usually found that people who begin with "the Bible says" end up misquoting or fabricating a quote. However someone who begns with just the quote and then ends by stating the chapter and verse is a sign of someone who really does know the Bible.

I haven't asked any questions yet, but I've answered some where there's been a bevvy of bible-bashers with their usual spiel of "pray for help, God loves you"....
Makes me want to whack them over the head with their bibles. People are on here to get answers, not to be preached at.
Not everyone here is a christian. They need to realise that people want other peoples own opinions, not something they read in a book.

My first thought is; 'Are they quoting it right and in context?' I also wonder if they are using it to promote hatred towards someone rather than spreading God's love. I do use the 'Bible says' statement at times, but I also tend to like to put other practical info into the answer as well. Blessing.

Me? I think first off that I don't care what the bible says as I am not a follower, then I like to answer, The National Inquires says..(Insert Inquirer Headline Here)....but I don't believe that either. Just because it's in print don't mean it's true...Then I smile and walk away....

I've never received an answer like that but i think i would just stop reading since i don' live my life by the bible. those kind of answers are also usually long, and hearing another persons opinion is fine, but not half a page!

This is a way of providing evidence for an argument. Whether or not it is valid evidence or not is another discussion.
People use this method as a way as justifying their point. It is not, as suggested above, simply that people can't think for themselves. As a rule, when people debate, evidence is always required to solidify a point.

That the person answering is wise and humble enough to present eternal truths as an answer to the question instead of trying to impress me with their own finite and flawed human "wisdom".
