definitely ask the doctor, you will get alot of good answers on here, but he will know for sure. I would hate for something bad to happen to your child. You could also try this site for some ideas to talk with yourdoctor about. www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/etext/000106.html

When my boys turned 4 months old, they were on rice cereal for a week, then oatmeal for a week, then barley then mixed. At that point, they're 5 months old, and you can start baby food stage 1 veggies and fruits.

Our pediatrician recommended cereal at 6 months. Then we started vegetables at 7, fruits at 8, and meat at 10. We also started the introduction of real food at 10 months. Each food needs to be given for at least 3-4 days to determine allergies. I believe the order that I used cereal was: rice, wheat, and then barley. Ask your Dr. for a handout on feedings, I'm sure they will have one for you to read over.

well check with dr. but usually rice cereal is what they start with and if they tolerate it well than it is usually barley or oatmeal then start with your yellow veggies, squash, carrots, sweet potatoes, but make sure you do not introduce new foods too close together space them at least 1 week apart in case of allergies. bananas are always a good first fruit and after you try it mix the fruit in with the cereal. my kids did not like the mixed cereals.

The *only* thing it is okay to give a baby before 6 months old is human milk (or formula). They cannot digest anything else, and it can endanger their health for a lifetime. For this reason, every health organization worldwide (including the World Health Organization, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and Health Canada) recommends exclusive breastfeeding for 6 months. It *probably* won't kill her/him or do serious permanent damage, but why risk it?

Breast milk or formula. 4 months is rather early to start solid foods, but if you feel that you have to give solid foods at this age, rice cereal is the safest food. If you give too many different solids too young, you put your child at risk of developing food allergies. Their digestive systems are mature enough to handle solid foods yet.

Their first food doesn't have to be rice cereal, but they're not supposed to start anything else but breastmilk or formula until 6 months.

rice cereal with flavors - like bananas or apples . Also, the other cereals like the oats cereal. You could also start them out on one vegetable or fruit, but only one at a time.

Their stomachs aren't developed enough to handle milk yet but i'd say i started feeding my sons at four months with Gerber applesauce, and banana baby food, anything that snt acidic, sweet potatoes were also a favorite, but watch closeley after you give him each ew food, because he may get an allergy. When you introduce one food at a time, allergies can be pinpointed quicker.
