Should people who are over weight have to show proof of disability to use the electric wheel chairs ?? and do you think wheel chairs should be for people only who are realy sick with disability?

well, you have to see on their side , they are over weight and too heavy to walk . then again they can try to walk and lose some weight . i agree the wheel chairs should be for people who are really sick with disability. and they have a disability being over weight. i agree and disagree just look at it from a different point of view.
Health
High blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, skeletal disorders (such as arthritis and gall bladder disease) are amongst many health reasons which may precipitate a reason for losing weight.
Exercise
Overweight may preclude participation in many forms of exercise. Handicaps occur due to lack of mobility, flexibility, exercise tolerance and grace of movement.
Accidents
There is evidence to show that obesity may increase the risk of accident due to limitation of movement and a decrease in mobility, making it difficult to avoid hazardous situations.
Physical Discomfort
Lack of energy to enjoy a high quality of life, fatigue, shortness of breath, joint pain and chaffing of skin may be experienced.

Hummmm....do you think obesity is a disease?? Has it given this person a real physical limitation in walking, say due to knee problems? Look I understand what you're taking about because I have to use a handi-cart at the larger stores and it really pisses me off when someone who appears to be using it only cause they have a fat butt is in the cart. BUT...on the other hand...it may be that person has an affliction that is not as apparent as mine. They may very well have heart problems or something more. Who is to say?? I guess having an ID card would help, but I think most disabled people are tolerant of those obese folks using the carts for convenience. God knows we wouldn't use them if we didn't need to. I'm conflicted on this question...very interesting and gives me something to think about.

No they shouldnt stop them. Do you realize that obesity is considered a disablity for some. Most people who are overweight have a very hard time walking and using the carts to transverse a store is a very helpful tool for them. If I were overweight I probably would use one too but no one should stop them because they are. The stores need to get more carts like them if they are running out because their are a lot of people who need them.

Like handicapped restrooms, the courtesy scooters in stores don't get used very much. I do not think that any business should be made to police the behavior of their customers if their customers are not doing anything illegal.
Obesity is not illegal. It is a health problem. As I posted in response to one of your other questions, I do not believe obesity is a conscious choice, but a bio-chemical imbalance in the insulin system. I fully believe education is the way to "cure" obesity. If everyone knew about the function of insulin in their system as well as they knew the channel and time of "American Idol", there would be more concious choice in eating properly, and, hopefully, more need for your services as a health-aware chef.

i think that people can do whatever they want and that stores have nothing to do with that....if the person in the wheel chair is really just in the wheel chair because they are "lazy" or have problem walking or if their in a wheel chair for real serious reasons, thats their business

How do you determine who has a disability? You can't really tell just by looking at someone, you know. The person who is overweight might have a health problem that has caused the weight gain. perhaps they had to take medications that made them that heavy.

Are you a bigot of over weight people some might actually have a thyroid problem pr a pituitary problem or a tumor that has caused them to become overweight but I guess you have never thought of that

I've seen it too and have initially had a bad opinion. However, we do not know what those people's medical condition is.
