The best way is putting it in a pillowcase or sack and tied up. Then place the sack in a cardboard box and seal it. You don't you may put a few holes to allow the how air to dissipate.
If the bus has AC and your journey is mostly on the bus, you would not require anything else to cool it down. If the bus does not have AC, I would put the sack in a styrofoam box with a cold pack.
It's not too dififuclt, since it is only 4 hours and I assume you will have the snake on board. I urge you to keep in on board where the temps are more stable. Don't mention or label it a sanke, people get stupid. If you put the sack in a pet carrier, people will ask dumb questions. Try to avoid attention, since most people do not welcome herps, especially snakes. It's so unfair.
Anyway, I have travelled around the world with herps, and planes are a pain to transport. The key is stable temps and you can do so by keeping it near you on board. If you're too cold or hot, so will be the herp.
Good luck.

Since most people freak out at even the thought of a snake. Don't say a word!
Toss the guy in a pillow case, then place in a back pack. Zip up the bag just before entering the station. Once you are on the bus, lay the back pack on the floor and unzip to improve the air quality.
The back pack will help insulate between temperature swings, offer protection, and most of all not stand out.

Go with a pet carrier, blanket in the bottom, if it is too hot outside fill a hot water bottle to stick under the blanket, don't worry about too cold he will curl up in the blanket and maintain heat.

strong pillow case definitely' I kept snakes for years and found this to be the best method, also try to keep them cool (it makes them torpid i.e less active)
tip: one day it will probably bite (they all do) DO NOT TRY TO PULL BACK .when it realizes it can't eat you it will let go, failing that to get it to release, a little perfume or strong smelling alcohol (pernod etc.) sprinkled near its snout should do the trick, they can tolerate quite a range of temperatures, 4 hours should be no problem at all. bear in mind that this is a baby and will get a LOT bigger. build a proper herpetarium it's not that difficult.

pillor case or better yet a snake bag (they breath better). Put it in a backpack or duffel bag. Be gentle it will be ok. I recieve them through the mail in sacks and styrofoam peanuts in a cardboard box. That short of a trip you will be fine.
