So far the Sony eqivalent of ipods, have been impressive, in terms of sound quality, build and overall usability....so much so that some have argued that they better even the mighty ipod.

However a lacking fundamental aspect of Sony's invention is not the device itself, but the software that comes with it. The software used and made by Sony has been critisized for its poor design and constant crashing, which makes it VERY difficult to use.

The Ipod on the other hand uses the Itunes software which is very user friendly..with most new users getting to grips with it in mintues. The software is also very reliable and generally problem-free. So good is the software, that it has become a vocal selling point of the Ipod.

The Ipod has great sound quality, is easy to use, and like you said, looks great (if you take care of it that is).....so unless you are relatively experienced in PC's and enjoy a little challenge, then the Sony Player may indeed be the one for you.

But if you want to pick and go, with a hassle free machine, then the Ipod is the product that i'd recommend....but i'm sure you'll be happy with either one.

Derrick T... Thank you! Breath of fresh air after seeing row after row of ipods. I have a Sony NW-E507 and I love it. Yeah, the software isn't the greatest, but Sony does offer a free drag n drop app to make transfers a lot easier. The battery life is awesome, I use it for school and the long bus rides, and I only recharge it once a week if that. Plus it's cute and shiny and very little. And for music, get limewire.

I used to be a huge Sony fan.

But, I'd recommend the Creative Zen Micro, Creative Zen Microphoto, or Creative Zen Vision: M. My family owns a Microphoto and a Vision: M.

The Creative players are stalwart players, easy to use, have built-in tuners, offer more options for music purchase at lower prices (79cents, 88cents, and 99cents versus 99cents only on iTunes) and they work with subscription music services such as Yahoo Music Unlimited To Go, Rhapsody To Go, and Napster To Go.

Neither the Sony nor the iPod work with subscription music services.

iPod. Its 20 songs versus 15,000. The iPod is also smaller and doesn't use batteries like a Walkman does.

Are there no anti establishment people here. Apple dominates the portable mp3 player realm and they have no universal accessories, so whenever your ready to jog with your player, recharge it in the car or record music ect.. you have to buy proprietary accessories. If your not into video sony has a neat mp3 player in the NW-E50& Walkman Core™ MP3 Player NW-E507

Depends on what you do and your budget. If you intend to jog or exercise while listening to music, the I-pod is better because it doesn't skip. If its just for private listening and you have a collection of cd's the walkman is the way to go.

Decide what your needs are and judge accordingly.

Those aren't even in the same ballpark. Get an iPod. Join the world. Apple's customer service is great too, for when it breaks in 6 months. ;)

Get an iPod. Hands down.
You can gain access to over 1,000 songs ( depending on the model) and can listen to them anywhere.
Coolness is just a bonus ;-)
but for maximum protection, get a proper cover for it.

iPod definitely, walkmans are too big and bulky and you always have the songs you want to hear with the iPod
