i am a professional pianist, and i love all classical music. There were so many talented composer in the classical world, but for me there is only one turely Great one, Beethoven. All his pieces are full of courage, despair, hope, anger, comfort. Every pieces are as touching as the most heart-pouring letters directly from Beethoven. They move listeners to the very core. Beside the most popular pieces like 'Fur Elise' and 'Moonlight sonata'. ' the 5 th and 9th symphony' . The pieces i love the most got to be the great piano sonata like
'Pathetique' 'Appasionata' 'Waldstein' 'Hammerclavier' and the ground breaking 'Eroica symphony'

I'm quite into classical music, but I'm not one of those people who likes classical but nothing else.

My favourite composers are Mozart, Telemann, Vivaldi and Elgar. The music they wrote has a nice way of sort of fitting together nicely and making great effects with layers on top of each other. Also, I like classical music because it never really grows old, rather than with rock and pop where artists and songs can be forgotten within a few months or years. Like with Mozart, he wrote music 250 years ago and no-one's bored with it yet.

It really depends on who is interpreting it. For example, I really like a lot of Paganini when played by the Berlin Philharmonic, but when interpreted by the London Symphony or the Los Angeles Philharmonic, it loses something to me. On the other hand, other composers like Hadyn don't lose as much with different interpretations. (ie, music I like regardless of who plays it.)

That being said:

Assuming the optimum interpretation, and therefore, the ability to leave interpretation open to the musician, my favourite classical music would be Schubert.

For classical music that stands on it's own and is less affected by interpretation, I like Beethoven.

But since many of the answers being given aren't strictly "classical," I'll add that Vaughan Williams is my overall favourite composer when interpreted the best way possible, and that Prokofiev is my favourite for the ability of his music to stand alone and not lean as much on interpretation.

A really hard question. I love the music of so many composers, and for different reasons. Bach for its creativity, Haendel for its vigour, Mozart for its freshness, Beethoven for its passion, Chopin for its pathos, Mendelssohn for its dream-like quality, Debussy for its subtlety, Tchaikovsky for its - sometimes excessive - sentimentalism, Mahler for its exasperation, Stravinsky for its unexpectedness, Satie for its rarefaction, Gershwin for its ability to incorporate the blues into the classic tradition, Piazzolla for giving respectability to the tango. However, if I really have to pick a favourite, I'd choose Schubert: I simply love all of his music (his Quartettsatz in C minor is top of my list); it's a gut feeling - I get the shivers just listening to it.

But my list goes on and on...

All the time; playing in orchestra really expanded my listening library. I enjoy Mussourgsky, Borodin, Schubert (especially his Unfinished), Smetana, Copland. I know some of these get into the Romantic and Impressionist periods, but I love them all for their differing ways of expressing emotions in their compositions. My top favorite... probably Mozart if I had to choose, most specifically his Requiem in D Minor, Confutatis Maledictis.

I love Shostakovich - I think his use of the DSCH motif is so incredible. And I absolutely love Bach. Though I'm learning the Walton Cello Concerto at the moment, and that is also beautiful. I can't pick my favourite! Though I'd probably take Bach's works with me onto a desert island.
