Whenever I put in a disc the computer cannot read it and dosen't play the disc. The computer acts as if there is nothing in the disc drive. How do I solve this problem? I have a Compaq Presario 5000 desktop.

clear drive's lens by using a lens clearing disk or lotion. if that doesnt help , get checked your harddisk by the manufacturer.

the same exact thing happens to my gateway computer! it's been happening for about 2 years and it will just stop playing discs for months at a time and then all of a sudden it will start working again. it gets really annoying and i dont know of any way to fix it without taking it in to get repaired.
