Refrences from family and friends would be the best way to go and let the person you want to babysit for know that you are willing to take first aid and maybe even a baby sitting course if you dont already have both. Most parents want to make sure that the babysitter is trust worthy and know how to handle an amergency. You need to show that you are really into it , that you know what you are doing and know what you can not do while babysitting such as bringing others over if you babysit in someones home.
You should also write it all down and let the person read that and you both should go over it and come to agreements. You can also offer a FREE try out and they may end up wanting you to babysit from there on.

in order for you to convince others to let you babysit you really ought to be the type of person that looks like someone that they would trust their children to be with you need to present yourself as smart (not intelligent) but looking clean clothes , clean appearance not scruffy looking you have to perhaps get involved with a volunteer organization such as if you are a girl gilr guides or boy and girls clubs.
Or other type of organizations so that the parents can see that you really are trustworthy. and are a responsible type of person.

Also a good sign that parents always look for i know i do is someone with a quick smile and wit, someone that is willing to be with the children and not someone that will turn on the television as soon as the Prent's are out the door and you send the children to thier rooms and leave them there for hours at a time that will get you no where.
Other wise keep plugging at it and good luck.

Take a first aid course. If you have babysat for others ask them for written references. Take a child care/babysitting course offered by your local YMCA/YWCA. Prepare a list of emergency phone numbers for your area and carry it with you whenever you are on the job. If you can show parents that you are competent, trained and responsible I think you'll get some babysitting jobs. The more you get and the better job you do, you'll get referrals for other babysitting jobs.

You can't convince people, you just have to show them how responsible you are, and you have to be really good with kids. You have to be able to show the parents that you'll have the authority at all times, but you will not abuse that privelege.

Show them that you know what you are doing, tell them what you can do for them. Make sure you know what to do in emergencys and tell them to let them observe you taking care of the kids for free just to show them how good you are.

hand out flyers to your neighbors who have little kids. Be like my name is.... I like to.... I am very responsible... i get along with kids very well... and state a reference if you can. If you do this it will show that you are mature and responsible enough to be a babysitter for many people.

Make up some fliers and pass them around your neighborhood. State if you have experience, CPR training (a very good idea), etc.
