There's an international chat program called Skype that everyone all over the world is connected to. I've met people from China, Japan, Morocco, and a lot of other cool places because of it. Just do a google search for "download skype" and you'll find it...it's a great program.

It's an international penpal site, but if you look at the bottom of the page you'll see a button named "penpal list by country" - if you go there and select Japan, you can then select the sexes and age groups of people you want to write to. There should be quite few possibilities..!

Depending on your age..if you are a teen encourage your parents to take in an exchange student from Japan. You'll make a friend for life.

check out "japan-guide" on the yahoo search engine and click the first site u see. u just fill out a profile and can either let other ppl read it and email u, or u can browse other profiles of japanese fellas in any age group u prefer and VOILA! friendships occur!
i have met 25 good japanese friends, all of which i still communicate with and 8 of which i have met in person from there.

Learn their culture and history.
Learn the language and show an interest in it.
Talk to some Japanese people you think you would like to be friends with.
Become and exchange student.
Join the airforce and get stationed there.
Just a few suggestions.

Long distance is very tough but once you establish an acquaintance send them chocholate candy bars and peanut butter. They really love it. And you will be sure to get a response.
Also...learn the language.
Find exchange students. Every university has them.
Once you learn their language offer to teach them yours.
If and when you go to visit them in their home country you will be treated like royalty.

you can try to find pen pals from there, if you get along with them enough, you could meet up with them.
or you could always go there and make friends, but you have to know how to speak perfect japanese . . .
