There are certain DVDs out there (mainly Disney movies and the like) that have small computer games themed to the movie, or some extra features, called DVD-ROM's, just the DVD-ROM has the movie, and the CD-ROM just has the computer data, the DVD-ROM discs have both, thats why a lot of modern computer DVD drives are DVD-ROM.

A CD-ROM has a capacity of about 700MB. They have either data or music tracks.
A DVD-ROM has a capacity of about 4GB. They have data, music or movies.
IF you are deciding between a CD burner and DVD burner, the DVD will cost more, but will also be rather fussy about the MEDIA that it takes. CDs can be easier to use, and the CD-R media can be used for VERY LONG TERM backup storage.
Someday, DVDs will be easy and awesome, but they aren't quite there yet. GOOD LUCK.

A CD-ROM can typically hold between 650MB and 700MB.
A single-layer DVD-ROM can hold up to 4.7GB of data, while a dual-layer DVD-ROM can hold up to 8.5GB.
The discs use different materials for the data surface(s), and the devices to record and play each type of disc use different wavelengths in the lasers. The data layer and laser wavelength of a DVD-ROM is what gives it its vastly superior storage capacity.

i think of a CD/DVD rigidity is barely for enjoying CD and DVDs. CD-RW and DVD-RW: the "R" ability your waiting to checklist, and the "RW" ability rewritable so which you would be able to checklist over what became earlier on your disc.
