My daughter (step) has lived with us for over 3 years and my husband and I share full custody. Now that she is a teen 13 and doesnt want chores she wants to move with her mom who abandoned her 3 years ago. Her mom is promising her the world. I know a long time ago the courts went mostly on age, but do we have a chance? We have other children that have never known a life without her in it and it will destroy them. Help please.

hm...I know a kid who was in this situation five years ago...I know that yes children in the state of virginf they can chose which parent to live with when They're 14. When a child reaches 14 they can chose which parent to stay with and if they want decide which parent will have custody over them or which parent won't.

But if her mom abandoned her, why does she want to go back? I'd be a little worried about her promising so much, but I think she might want to make up for three years ago, her intintions maybe honest, but I think you can still have the go on what she can do until she reaches the age of 14 though. And for the sake of your other children...it wouldn't be fair, they're too young to be without her, if they were older I'd understand, but why would she want to go back with her mom in this situation. All I can say is you only have a year before she can make this decision on her own...
