go paw in hand=go hand in hand:if two things go hand in hand, they exist together and are connected with each other.

All it's saying is that you can tell a lot about a person by the dog they choose and the spouse they choose. "Paw in hand" is just used as a clever figure of speech in place of "hand in hand," since dogs are a major part of the point.

It means how we view and perceive others is similar to dogs, and that in itself is enough to show how we judge the world and things around us. That's my opinion.
