You can't. You can be sectioned by a mental health professional after an assessment or you can voluntarily admit yourself to a mental hospital. If you are sectioned you can't leave until the psychiatrist says you are OK. As a voluntary patient you can leave whenever you like.

If you do not want to approach your G.P. then visit the local N.H.S. hospital and go to the walk-in emergency centre. Someone there will be able to give you guidance.

Physical and mental problems are all treatable under the N.H.S. A broken bone is easily recognised and generally receives much sympathy. These days, it is acknowledged that many people will suffer some form of mental illness in their life and they also receive sympathy and understanding.

Should anyone disagree about the numbers suffering mental health problems they would do well to appreciate the many suffering from depression . Those who scoff should take note; losing ones temper is a bout of temporary insanity.
