its very easy to do, I purchased a simple booklet at the hardware store - the one I have is mostly diagrams, you just follow the pictures.
you could also do your own picture by mapping out the switch or plug as it is now.
you will need this following tools
circuit Alert tester or a plug in tester
(always turn off power then test it).
philips screwdriver #2
straight screwdriver
a needle nosed pliers
a wire cutter
a wire stripper
black tape
wire nuts
sometimes a flashlight
before you purchase switch know what you need 2-way 3-way or 4-way switch

First be sure to turn off the power to the switch or plug! Get a screwdriver and do the change.
