Does it really help you stay drier or is the amount of rain hitting you the same (since you're running into raindrops in addition to them landing on your head)?

if you get from point a to point b faster, you get less wet (assuming a and b are inside).

If the rain is falling at a similar rate, then it will not matter if you are walking or running. You will get just as wet either way. Walking gives you extra balance, so you are less likely to slip, slide, or trip over something that is covered up by mud. Running will get you to point b faster - just as wet - and give you a few more seconds to dry off.

u know, its really funny when i see people, esp ladies, covering their head with their palm when in the rain. As if it would help keep them dry!

If u watch Mythbusters on discovery channel, they did and experiment on walking and running in the rain, and found that walking in the rain actually keeps u drier than running, which makes your body accumulate more rain as u run. of course, in a very severe thunderstorm, running would be better.
