I read these really great books by the same author when i was in school.....
one was his autobiography where he described how he became a doctor..... his journeys to places like India....... and how he eventually became a writer.......the book ends with his realisation of god.......
the other was about this newspaper called "the northern star" or something similar.......... how it survives in a small town after it gets some competition...........
.......if anyones read a similar book..........will u let me know the name of the author.............

The second book sounds like _The Shipping News_, by Annie Proulx.

"The Razor's Edge" by W. Somerset Maugham may not be the first book you mentioned, but it's a very good novel along similar lines.

i guess the first one is 'heart of darkness' by Joseph Conrad.. the place he goes to is Africa not India...
dont know about the second one... sorry!
