I think it's an archaeic way of handling students. The teachers and disciplinarians who resort to something like that are obviously out of their league.
I don't think such acts of public humiliation are still effective in curbing undesirable behaviour. Public caning and other physical punishments in school should be banned.

I think caning is barbaric, and if schools expect to get positive results from trouble students this is not the way to get them.
As parents supporting our children through out their education, will ensure better behavior from them.
