Well knowing us earthlings, we'll probably kill/enslave/put them on reservations, take their land and not compensate them, force one of our many religions on them, use up their fuel and food resourses, and eventually ruin their planet ecologically and environmentally.

I believe that certain behaviors are almost inescapable for humankind, and I also believe that we haven't learned anything useful in our history here, or if we have, we're not always applying that knowledge to the future.

Mankind will repeat history. All we have to do is look around what is going on here on earth today to prove that. Genocide, war, famine, poverty. United States in Iraq not because of human rights violations but because of alleged weapons of mass destruction which we always knew were not there, and are really there for oil and control of it. We will destroy anybody in our way under the guise of "bringing democracy" when really what we want are the resources. In this sense, we are no better than the Spanish Conquistadors and their want of American gold and riches. If we really respected human rights, etc. we would be in Sudan and places like that today. But we are sadly absent.
As for whether or not we will kill the aliens off, that is a big possibility, not just because of our human ways, but also because of viruses, etc. We have historical proof here on earth that common diseases in Europe killed off many Native North American groups because they had never before been exposed to the illnesses. Of course, we take the same risk that we will catch illnesses the aliens are immune to (or at least have no real problems with like we do with the common cold) and we have no biological defense for.

I believe the pursuit of Captain Pichard (spelling) type diplomacy and the Prime Directive of The Federation of Planets would be the Humans pathway to the stars. If we've learned anything it is that you cannot go around bullying. Well, at least America SHOULD have learned this by now. I mean really, look at the ******** Bush and what he's done so far.

I think mankind will be lucky to survive our own political system(s.) So I wouldn't get my hopes up on going to space any time soon.

If humans here on Earth ever found a way to, perhaps, interact with a newly found alien, we would probably try to watch their behavior towards others; the way they live, eat, speak (language)...so we get a slight understanding of how they may act towards humans. If they were more intelligent than us, maybe they already know cures to things such as cancer, AIDS, and the common cold. They may be able to help us find such cures here on Earth. If they were less intelligent, then maybe they still know something we don't. Either way, it would certainly be exciting to find new life outside of the Earth.

Do you think that just maybe, other more intelligent alien species might already be living here, maybe working with our government? My ex was in the FBI and swears they've been here for quite a long time. And we are not the more intelligent of the race.
