If it is a standard you have to take a plug out of the side of the transmission. Put fluid in it untill it starts comming out of the hole

On most vehicles you put transmission fluid down the pipe that holds the dipstick with a funnel. You didn't say what kind of Tacoma it is, so I don't know for sure how much fluid it would take, but unless it's totally empty just buy a couple of quarts and add one and check the level.
