In England there are many St George flags flying and Union Jacks but as the Sottish / Welsh /Irish have made it clear they want England to lose in the world cup should the Union Jack be scrapped so the English can say stuff the rest of you?

NO, NO, and a thousand times: NO! Despite the comments I made answering a question on a different issue earlier, I wish to set the record straight and state that I am proud to call myself a citizen of the United Kingdom. I always will admit to being a fiercely proud Englishman, but I have a great affinity with Scotland and Wales, and I do love visiting both countries. I always wear a red rose and red & white ribbons on 23rd April (St George's day), but a close friend of mine always wears a daffodil or leek badge on March 1st (being a proud Welshman), and we always wish each other well on our respective Saint's days. Being Northumbrian-born, I have always loved many things Scottish, and my family and I always have a haggis on Burns' Night (we love it). So it's fair to say that despite devolution, the UK is still as cohesive as ever. God save the Queen.

p.s., Oh and Starshafter 1, kindly get off your high horse. We don't all hate Scotland or it's people. Be proud of who you are and learn to laugh at it, and yourselves too. We can take a bit of flack from you guys, so please learn to take a bit too.

The Union Jack is supposed to represent the UK at what?, it's just a symbol of a fragmented Union. The Scots, Welsh and Northern Irish and the English should fly their own banners., it's not a matter of the English saying stuff the rest of you after all we have all been well and truly stuffed by the EU, what flag in the future???, should it be a mixture of all the differing cultures that have been thrust upon us, what a multi - coloured rag that would be!!!

No! The Union Jack means United Kingdom, St Georges flag just means football's on.

Sooner the better!

I think that when we have the Olympic Games in England we should fly our own flag at the Games.

Also if we fly the Union Jack the next level up is to fly the EU flag!

PS The Government spends £800 more per year on every person in Scotland compared to England, that's about £6bn per year whose the parasites now?

Hawaii still uses the Union Flag as an element within it's flag even though it has not been a UK colony for over 100 years. And the Saint Patrick's Saltire has remained an element even though Ireland as a whole hasn't been part of the UK since 1937. Identity and continuity is more important for a state than the reasons behind the flag design elements.

From the Act of Union, up to present day, with 2005-6 yielding £12 billion worth of Scottish oil revenue, pumped towards Westminster, Scotland had been vital for the Union. I'm not a hater of England at all, and Scots, and I'm getting mightily f**ked off with all the anti-Scots polemic on these answer boards, and can sometimes understand why a lot of Scots want to strengthen their parliament and say "stuff the Union flag and while we're at it, we'll keep our oil money, thank you".

the union jack should be scraped only for the cup because the Union Jack is a bunch of countries. Use St. George flag.

I must admit that down here in the south west are loads of St George flags, but I've not seen any Union Jacks.

No, we must keep the union flag if only to remind the Scots that they are part of the UK. For instance, there is no such thing as Scottish oil etc, it belongs to the UK just as all the wealth created in London is distributed throughout the UK. So until the Scots have the guts to break away, we remain a united kingdom.

just a point, we scots cant just break away from the uk and england. It would cost alot of money and take alot of time.
Plus its not like we just use the parliment in england because we cant be bothered to use our own. If a law is passed their, we have to follow it. we cant just say "nah, we've got our own parliment and we want guns legal"
As for the union jack, i say keep it. It unites the countries under a banner. no point scrapping an entire way of life cost the countries alot of money just because the scot like trinidad.
and for the record, i dont want england to lose, i just dont want them to win. I cant bear a repeat of 1966. it followed with 40 years of flashbacks and referneces and "best moment in uk history"

Scottish funding England through oil money! Don't be stupid its run out anyways! Scotland couldn't survive without the constant flow of money going their way from the gullible English, and are they grateful?
If Scotland left the UK it'd soon regret it and find out just what a desperate parasite it really is.
England would have more money though!
