Good compost, water and light. When young or in a pot they are sensitive to frost. If it's in the garden and the trunk is less than, say, an inch thick, wrap it in sacking and cover round the roots with straw in the winter. Even if the top is killed, it may very well shoot from the bottom if the root system was good.
